 James Seeley, aortic stenosis
James Seeley considers himself one lucky man. The 66-year-old went to Centerpoint Medical Center’s Emergency Department on March 24, 2008 with excruciating pain. He was immediately admitted for gallbladder surgery but during a routine exam prior to the procedure Joseph Evans, MD detected a heart murmur.  Don Creek's work as a self-employed backhoe operator work is extremely physical, requiring him to climb in and out of his equipment. So when his left hip began bothering him nearly two years ago, he pushed through the pain until he decided to have Jeffrey Salin, D.O., an orthopaedic surgeon at Research Medical Center, perform a hip replacement.

 Peggy Hayson, 58, Cancer Survivor
It was July 2008 and Peggy’s cancer story started as it does for many women—after a shower, when they notice something that doesn’t look quite right. In Peggy’s instance her mammogram was five years overdue so she made an appointment at Lafayette’s imaging department. Her technician was Connie Kalthoff, a fellow hospital employee and friend.
“Connie returned to the room following my mammogram and said the doctor wanted to get another film,” says Peggy. “I was a bit nervous, but assumed they were being cautious. I never really thought it would be breast cancer because I didn’t have it on either side of my family.” Read More
